Depression can affect and take over your life, and every aspect can begin to suffer from your relationships, your career, your health and well being, and more. It can also lead to other conditions such as alcoholism,  anxiety disorders, and more. Depression can be extremely serious , and be a lifelong condition if not treated correctly. Counselling can help you understand your depression and overcome it piece by piece.

Depression can happen just occasionally for weeks or even months at a time, or it can be a lifelong constant battle. The feelings that can take over your everyday routine of work, family, or your everday activities. Even getting the motivation for getting out of bed can be difficult. Once these feelings get a grip on your life, they can spiral out of control. Depression is however surprisingly common, with around 1 in 10 people experiencing it at some point in their life. However, its only when this feeling becomes prolonged and unnatural in its behaviour, that people begin to realise they have a problem. Even then, many do nothing about it, and go undiagnosed as they try to cope with the stresses of life, further spiralling down into deeper or longer bouts of depression.

Many sufferers also believe that depression is not a real illness and admitting it is a form of weakness or admission of failure, whereas in reality the opposite is actually true. Recognising and admitting depression, and seeking help for its effects, is something which only a relatively small number of people are able to achieve.
